5G-DIVE kick off meeting took place last 31th of October in Hsinchu, Taiwan. This project is funded by the European Commission and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan. 5G-DIVE is a H2020 5G-PPP project composed of partners from industrial and academic field of both regions, Europe and Taiwan. The consortium comprises 12 partners: European organizations are, UC3M University as Project Coordinator, ADLINK Technology, Ericsson, Interdigital Germany, Telefónica, Telcaria Ideas and Rise. From the Taiwanese side the companies are, Industrial Technology Research Institute, as Taiwanese project coordinator, NCTU, Askey and Institute for Information Industry.

Dr Joerg Widmer, Research Professor and Director of Research at IMDEA Networks, has been awarded the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Grade of Fellow for his contribution to the field of wireless networks and millimeter-wave communications. This recognition will take effect on 1 January 2020.

5TONIC, the open research and innovation laboratory on 5G technologies, founded by Telefónica and IMDEA Networks, has presented, together with SAMUR-PC and the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), a new system for situations 5G-based emergency plan, developed under the European innovation project 5G-TRANSFORMER.

The researcher and professor Antonio Fernández Anta has received November the 5th the ARITMEL Award, one of the four National Computer Science Awards jointly granted by the Spanish Computer Science Society (SCIE) and the BBVA Foundation. Due to this award, we have asked him to tell us his impression about the next technological advances. In addition, he has explained in detail the advantages and disadvantages of developing a research career.
