ETSI ISG MEC visits 5TONIC Laboratory

Representatives of ETSI’s International Steering Group (ISG) on Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) were given an exclusive tour of the 5TONIC 5G co-creation laboratory in Madrid last week. The team from ETSI was in Madrid for the 17th plenary meeting of the MEC ISG.  The meeting was hosted by Universidad Carlos III Madrid who, as one of the partners of the 5TONIC initiative, arranged the laboratory visit.

Project delivers low-cost future network architecture for mobile operators

Lower operating costs, enhanced performance, flexibility, resilience and interoperability in 5G networks are all available to mobile operators following the recent completion of a major research project. The 4-year TIGRE5-CM project, coordinated by IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid, delivers an architecture designed for future mobile networks, based on the SDN (Software Defined Networking) paradigm.  TIGRE5-CM simplifies deployment, configuration and management in both the access and core networks, integrating cutting-edge technologies.

Celling 5G, una nueva e innovadora empresa de tecnología española, se ha convertido en el último colaborador en unirse al laboratorio de creación conjunta 5TONIC, con sede en IMDEA Networks Institute. La compañía radicada en Madrid comenzará de inmediato un nuevo proyecto de investigación para probar su solución avanzada para el despliegue de células pequeñas en cooperación con otros miembros de 5TONIC.

Forward thinking 5G and beyond research at IMDEA Networks receives major backing

The Wireless Networking Group at IMDEA Networks, led by the Institute’s Research Director Dr. Joerg Widmer, has received major financial backing to pursue a new communication paradigm for future very high speed wireless networks. The Madrid-based team has set itself to explore communication in the extremely high frequency part of the radio spectrum, the millimeter wave band (mm-wave) from 30 to 300GHz, to vastly increase data rates of future wireless and mobile networks.
