Arturo Azcorra joins the Partnership Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association in Europe

Professor Arturo Azcorra, a pioneer of internet and network science research in Spain, has been elected member of the Partnership Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association. This body provides European-wide leadership in the design of next-generation advanced communication systems. The ultrafast mobile broadband technology of the future, branded as 5G, will be the foundation of the future Internet, and is expected to withstand data connections 1,000 times heavier than today's.

CROWD selected "early 5G precursor project"

The CROWD research project in the strategic domain of future communication and ICT services infrastructures has been selected by the European Commission (EC) to join the group of "early 5G precursor projects". As such, it will contribute to the early showcasing of potential technologies for the future ubiquitous, ultra-high bandwidth “5G” infrastructure. The project has been included in the list of demonstrations at the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC) organized by the EC in June 2014, in Italy.

Joint Research Unit created to research 5G

IMDEA Networks Institute and Telefónica Research and Development announce the creation of a Joint Research Unit (JRU) named “Telefónica - IMDEA Networks Joint Research Unit in 5G technologies”. The development of 5G has already become a landmark in the global competition for technological leadership. Over the next seven years, this private-public alliance will share a wealth of know-how and in-house capabilities to tackle the challenge of creating a blueprint for the new technology and the standards that are to define future ICT networks.

IMDEA Networks joins European effort to create 5G, the next-generation network of networks

IMDEA Networks Institute has become a member of the 5G Infrastructure Association, a legal entity created by the European Commission and aiming to accelerate work on fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks for 2020 and beyond. This partnership initiative will lead the 7-year long European effort to produce and influence international standards for next-generation cellular networks, laying out the ambitious vision and research agenda.
