Dr. Domenico Giustiniano is the head of the Pervasive Wireless Systems group at IMDEA Networks. He is also the leader of the OpenVLC project, an open-source platform for research in visible light communication networks and the co-founder of the non-profit Electrosense association, a crowd-sourcing initiative to collect and analyse spectrum data.

Spotting and stopping the spectrum saboteurs

A new research project has been launched with the aim of developing a system for detecting threats to the electromagnetic space.  Led by IMDEA Networks Institute (a networking research organization based in Madrid, Spain), the SOCRATES project has recently been awarded funding by NATO’s Emerging Security Challenges Division – Science for Peace and Security Programme (SPS). The two other collaborating partners on the project are the ElectroSense non-profit association of Switzerland (a crowd-sourcing initiative that collects and analyses spectrum data) and Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven of Belgium. Their work will be concluded by May 2021.

Innovative Autonomous System for Identifying Schools of Fish

The SYMBIOSIS system integrates acoustic and optical technologies without human intervention. The system is the product of an international scientific initiative under the EU’s Horizon 2020 program. Real-time monitoring of schools of fish will inform the development of fishing policy and lead to enhanced protection of the marine environment.
