The 5TONIC co-creation and research laboratory near Madrid, Spain, has collaborated with Autonomously Guided Vehicle (AGV) specialist ASTI Mobile Robotics to launch a series of tests that demonstrate 5G technology could be used to drive AGVs around large factories without the need for pre-set routes or tracks to follow.

IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid has received AEIT’s 2018 Award for Innovation. This prestigious prize recognizes the Institute’s successes in innovating in the field of telematics and in particular in areas of significant socio-economic impact.
Two more companies have joined the specialist 5G mobile research and innovation laboratory in Spain called 5TONIC. Altran and Red Hat are the latest companies to become members of the 5TONIC initiative joining existing companies such as Telefónica, Intel and Ericsson.
The laureate professor and scientist Prof. Dr. Ian Akyildiz of the Georgia Institute of Technology – Georgia Tech (USA), visited Madrid on July 19th, 2017, to give a talk entitled "SoftAir: A Software-Defined Networking Architecture for 5G Wireless Systems".
5G technology will support the Internet of Things. The number of connected terminals will be multiplied by 150 and will exceed one million million.
To tackle this all-important question in the Digital Age, the research Institute IMDEA Networks, in collaboration with University Carlos III of Madrid, has just celebrated its 9th Annual Workshop under the motto: «Enabling future internet applications: networking, privacy and security challenges».
Researchers at IMDEA Networks are working on a €4.6million EU-funded project called RECAP to develop the next generation of optimised cloud computing systems to support the Internet of Everything. The project will pave the way for a radically novel concept in the provision of cloud services.
To assist with the deployment of the 3GPP standardized Mobile IoT technologies (NB-IoT, LTE-M, and EC-GSM), the GSMA’s Connected Living programme has launched the «Mobile IoT Open Lab Map», a unique resource which provides information on the operators, equipment manufacturers and associated technologies that are being developed in any particular region.
In the last weeks, several tests of mobile IoT (Internet of Things) technologies have been carried out in 5TONIC that have involved Telefónica, Ericsson, and third parties.
