Next November 5th the researcher and professor Antonio Fernández Anta will receive the ARITMEL Award, one of the four National Computer Science Awards jointly granted by the Spanish Computer Science Association (SCIE) and the BBVA Foundation. We interview one of the members of our Alumni Network, Dr. Paul Patras, during his recent visit to IMDEA Networks. Paul obtained his PhD from IMDEA Networks and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid back in March 2011 and is now an Associate Professor in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. This makes him the first member of our Alumni Network to achieve tenure.

A team of Spanish girls finalist of the Technovation Challenge with a geolocation app for women

The LPSN team, formed by 5 students of Madrid’s secondary school IES Velázquez de Móstoles, has been selected to represent Spain in the final of the Technovation Challenge. The last stage of this global competition that promotes technological entrepreneurship amongst girls will take place in August 15th in San Francisco (USA). Cristina Márquez Colás, an external PhD student at IMDEA Networks Institute who is undertaking the doctoral program at the University Carlos III of Madrid together with Oscar Amador Molina, mentor the team.

5TONIC to explain the impact of 5G on railway sector at Passenger Global Forum

5TONIC, the open research and innovation laboratory focusing on 5G technologies, takes part today in the ‘Passenger Global Forum’, organized by the UIC (the Worldwide Railway Organisation) and hosted by RENFE (the National Network of Spanish Railways). 5TONIC has been invited by the Spanish government to provide an overview of the potential applications of 5G to the railway sector. To this end, Arturo Azcorra, IMDEA Networks Director and 5TONIC Vice-President, will give a keynote speech entitled “The 5G Revolution and its impact on the Railway Sector”.
