An interesting emerging area of research is being created as a result of advances in basic science and technology fields, such as: antenna and radio technology, integrated circuits and modulation techniques, and protocol engineering. Some of the ongoing advances in these fields are fractal antennas, MIMO-MISO systems, beam-forming antennas, integration of radiofrequency and logical circuits in a single chipset, different variants of OFDM modulation schemes, and improvement on decision algorithms
At the same time, we may see breakthrough discoveries in the scientific and technological field of telematics, such as: media access control techniques and protocols, channel coding and other coding techniques, multi-path routing algorithms and protocols, energy saving routing techniques, novel signalling and network management for mobile and wireless environments, audiovisual services over packet networks, multimedia presentation techniques adaptable to presentation in a range of hand-held devices.
The research activity of IMDEA Networks will take place within the telematics research field. In particular, IMDEA Networks will focus its research objectives around the “Future Wireless Internet” concept.
